KUALA LUMPUR: A man who was said to have married his stepdaughter in Thailand was charged with incest yesterday.
The 48-year-old man, who works as a security guard at a department store here, was accused of raping his 18-year-old stepdaughter at their home in Lorong Raja Alang Satu here.
He allegedly committed the offence on Oct 7 at around midnight.
Under Section 376A of the Penal Code, a person is said to have committed incest if he has sexual intercourse with another person whose relationship to him is such that he is not permitted to marry her under the law, religion or custom.
The punishment is a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
After the charge was read, the shabbily dressed man denied that he had committed the crime.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Afifuddin Hafifi objected to bail, saying the accused and the victim had resided in the same house before his arrest.
Judge Akhtar Tahir denied bail for the accused. He fixed Dec 4 for mention.
