A group of people sexually abused by a Salvation Army captain while in his care in the 1970s say they will be taking further action.
John Francis Gainsford, 69, was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in prison, after being found guilty of 22 charges of sexual abuse, including rape.
The offences were carried out while Gainsford was manager of a children’s home in Temuka in South Canterbury.
The Salvation Army says it deeply regrets the incident and times have changed since then.
But one victim says they have had no apology and no direct compensation, and will be taking further action against the Salvation Army.
